South Dublin County Council (SDCC), in partnership with IPB Insurance, has officially launched the Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF), a new €100,000 community fund supporting local environmental projects across South Dublin County.
LEAF will provide grants to Tidy Towns groups, Residents’ Associations and other voluntary community organisations to deliver projects focused on:
- Environmental enhancement
- Biodiversity
- Climate action
- Sustainability
The LEAF initiative forms part of the national Communities Working Together for Climate Fund and builds on the long-standing contribution of community volunteers whose work continues to improve local neighbourhoods while supporting Ireland’s climate and biodiversity ambitions.
Funding Available
Grants ranging from €1,000 to €25,000 are available to fully fund high-impact environmental projects within the South Dublin County Council administrative area.
Projects may focus on areas including:
- Biodiversity enhancement
- Sustainability initiatives
- Water conservation
- Renewable energy
- Circular economy projects
- Waste reduction and recycling
Who Can Apply?
Applications are welcome from:
- Tidy Towns groups
- Residents’ Associations
- Other voluntary community organisations carrying out similar environmental work
Projects must involve collaboration with at least one other community stakeholder, such as:
- Schools
- Scouts
- Youth Clubs
- Sports Clubs
- Women’s Sheds
- Men’s Sheds
- Community Gardens
Examples of Eligible Projects
Funding can support projects such as:
- Pollinator-friendly perennial planting aligned with the SDCC or All-Ireland Pollinator Plan
- Tree planting and urban greening initiatives
- Small-scale renewable energy projects, including solar panels for community centres
- Water conservation measures such as rain gardens, water butts and rainwater harvesting
- Repair cafés, recycling and waste reduction initiatives
- Community sustainability awareness campaigns
- Climate resilience projects, including flood prevention measures
