PPN Representatives

What are PPN Representatives?

A PPN Representative is elected for a fixed term to represent the issues of PPN members on a particular Board or Committee.  They are elected onto a Board or Committee my members of the PPN. A PPN Representative does not represent the group they are a member of, they represent the PPN and are guided by their linkage group.

What structures do PPN Representatives sit on?

The PPN has representatives sitting on a wide range of committees across multiple thematic areas. Most of these are local authority based, though as time goes on and the PPN develops, this will widen to local agencies, forums and boards also.

Key Principles Guiding PPN Representatives

Listen

It is important that PPN Reps go into committee meetings with a willingness to listen to the business being discussed and the points being made by all parties at the table. It is especially important to listen and gather the views of the PPN membership beforehand.

Discuss

Having listened to everyone’s opinion, the PPN Rep should give theirs. The PPN Rep is a member of this committee because of their interest in the subject matter and because the PPN believes they are capable of representing the community. PPN Reps should be assured that they can participate fully, equally and knowledgeably in the debate.

Represent

In participating in a committee, the PPN Reps need to remember that they were elected by their fellow PPN members – to represent them in every way possible. PPN Reps are not just there to voice their own views, PPN Reps are there to represent the views of the PPN Pillar and Linkage Group.

Feedback

It is the responsibility to the PPN Reps to feed back to the PPN. Feedback is a two-way street, i.e., (a) issues to be raised by the PPN Rep at particular committee and (b) feedback from the business of the meeting to PPN.

Finding Out More and Having an Input

Meeting Reports

All PPN Reps are required to submit meeting reports after each of their committee meetings. These are circulated in PPN newsletters and are available to view on this website. These meeting reports give the PPN Reps perspective on what happened at the meeting and any outcomes that the PPN should be made aware of.

Linkage Groups and Pillar Meetings

From time to time, where appropriate and where demand exists, the PPN calls topic based meetings. These meetings are used to gather the views of the PPN members. These meetings are called Linkage Groups. The views gathered at a Linkage Group meeting are then used by the PPN Reps on their respective committees. They are also used by the PPN to inform policy submissions on topical issues.
