In late May, the DCU Glasnevin Campus became a vibrant hub of learning and collaboration as South Dublin County PPN (SDC PPN) joined with the other Dublin PPNs for an intensive Summer School.
Across four days of in-person and online sessions, members explored a wide range of topics from the workings of the Irish political system to the fast-evolving world of Artificial Intelligence all designed to strengthen community knowledge, skills, and participation.
A Shared Learning Journey
A key strength of the Summer School was the collaboration between the four Dublin PPNs, South Dublin, Dublin City, Fingal, and Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown. This cross-network approach created space for shared learning, with community members exchanging experiences and insights from across the region.
The programme covered a broad mix of practical and relevant topics, including:
- Modern Communications: Strengthening storytelling skills through media promotion and social media
- Navigating the System: Understanding the Irish political system and EU policymaking processes, and how community voices feed into decision-making
- Handling Challenges: Practical tools from conflict coaching and mediation, alongside sessions on tackling disinformation and engaging effectively in policymaking
- The Future of Tech: Exploring how Artificial Intelligence can support and enhance the work of community organisations
Local Groups at the Heart of the Conversation
It was wonderful to see such a diverse range of SDC PPN member groups involved throughout the week. From tech-focused communities like to environmental champions, the breadth of participation highlighted the strength of the network.
We were also joined by residents’ associations, youth services, and arts and culture organisations, ensuring a rich mix of perspectives in every discussion.
Learning for the Future
Beyond the workshops themselves, a key takeaway from the week was the value of reflection on how we engage, collaborate, and strengthen our role within community life.
A sincere thank you to everyone who took part. Your energy, ideas, and commitment continue to make the PPN a vital part of civic life in South Dublin. We look forward to welcoming you to our next training and engagement opportunities.
